Super Efficient Electric & Insulated Drinkers

Automatic Water BucketThe Companion/Horse (PCHE) drinkers are made especially for horses, alpacas & llamas, sheep, goats, minis of all kinds or small farm animals.

Features include rounded edges for animal safety, a large access panel for hookup and maintenance, molded in hold downs, thick insulation and a deep 8” bowl which holds 5.5 gallons. The PCHE is electric and uses a 75 watt super efficient infrared heating pad which is thermostatically controlled.

These state-of-the-art drinkers feature a low wattage, infra-red heat pad placed directly under the water trough (starts at approx. 42°F). These pads produce more heat, using less than 1/4 of the electricity of 500 watt heaters (115 Volt). The double insulated design eliminates the possibility of stray voltage that can be a problem in metal drinkers. Heat pads are totally isolated from the animal to prevent electric shock from the heating element. Units have a new non-siphoning easy maintenance (BL) water valve, built-in hold downs, removable drain plugs and easily accessible doors. Fully assembled, ready to install.

These one-piece, heavily insulated drinkers are all poly… rust and corrosion free. Thick styrofoam floor keeps the frost line below the drinker. Urethane insulation in the walls is over four times the insulation found in competitor’s models. Tested to -20° F.

Each Drinker now comes with 6’ of hose for initial hookup.

The plastic used in all Behlen Country™ units is FDA approved, food grade, recyclable, polyethylene plastic. It is impact resistant, UV stabilized, and light weight yet strong.

All Electric Drinkers have a 5 year limited warranty on the body and a 1 year limited warranty on valves and controls.

*Note: To ensure proper operation in freezing temperatures, it is recommended that 18” Poly Earth Tubes be installed. Poly Earth Tubes should be used to insulate to level below frost for area of installation. Poly Earth Tubes must be ordered separately.

Animals cut back on their water intake when the water is unpleasantly cold. Dehydration is followed by reduced appetite. The end result is animals with urinary bladder infections, constipation, and in extreme cases, complications leading to abortion or even death. Often the supplements are blamed, but the lack of water and feed intake precipitate the problems.

WINTER TIPS: When the temperature is below 25 degrees F for more than 48 hours, the forage and supplement should be 25% more. Maintain the water temperature at 45-48 degrees F for at least 12 hours a day. Add apple or cherry flavored electrolytes. This can be done all year.

    Tips for installation
  • Check & tighten all fittings before turning on the water supply
  • Make sure infrared heating panel is in contact with the bottom of the water reservoir
  • Use the “slot” option for installing waterline under the insulated tubes as opposed to going through the pipe. Much easier!
  • Seal around the base of the waterer in cold climates to keep the water from freezing
  • Insulated down tubes in trench, water line & electric will come up the tubes to base of auto waterer Looking down into insulated tubes, adjustable shutoff handle is resting down in the tube, will be raised up into base of waterer in final install Insulated tubes buried & ready for pad We made a concrete with a slight bevel to shed the water, this is placed on top of the insulated tubes, the insulated tube could also come up through a larger hold in the pad Shut off shown will be raised for easy use, the shut off allows the water to be shut off below the frost line and the riser pipe to drain similar to a frost free hydrant
Waterer ready to be hooker up, install is very easy, water line and 12/2 w/ ground power feed Infrared heating pad is in direct contact with the water bowl and is therefore more efficient than other heated waterers that use a heated coil that has to radiate up to the water bowl Blue cylinder at top of photo is simple, hard wired thermostat for ease of operation and keeping the water from freezing Water line hooked up Power next
